Ron Smith, CEO

Ron Web PicRon is the inspiration behing Brenark Business Development Inc., providing coaching services that challenge small business owners to improve the way they do business.  Ron is a certified business coach and strategist with over 40 years of professional experience as a senior leader, entrepreneur, and board member of public, private and non-profit corporations.

Most of his 35 year career was spent in the investment industry as a senior partner of several brokerage firms with primary responsibilities for institutional sales, principal trading and discount brokerage.

Operating his own investment firm, Ron focused on corporate finance services for medium sized businesses. Ron has held seats on both the Toronto and Alberta Stock Exchanges and currently serves on the Ontario District Hearing Panel for IIROC (Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada).

Throughout his life, Ron has owned and managed businesses that include importing industrial machinery from Europe & Taiwan, lease financing, yacht brokerage and a commercial apple orchard. Always with a passion for small business, Ron has been fortunate in creating and successfully exiting most ventures – not all, but there is no such thing as failure – you can only fail if you fail to learn from setbacks.

With a sense of social responsibility, Ron has contributed as Vice Chair of Habitat for Humanity, volunteered as a business mentor for the CYBF (Canadian Youth Business Foundation) and serves as a Volunteer Advisor with Canadian Executive Services Organization.  Ron’s volunteer work also includes being a member of the Investment Review Panel for the RIC Centre in Mississauga, ON – a business incubator for entrepreneurs (Research – Innovation- Commercialization).

In April 2013 Ron travelled to Honduras Central America as part of a 2 week humanitarian mission with Healthy Horizons for Children and Families. His involvement was to explore and learn about the structure and implementation of entrepreneurial micro loans in developing countries.  To read more about this trip, please visit
